Spiritual Craving

Are we CRAVING the pure word? Pregnant women are known to crave certain foods. We recognize that this is a result of their condition, laugh with them, and love to accommodate this sweet oddity.

If Christ has been conceived in us, do we experience the craving Peter described?

"As newborn babes crave the pure milk of the word in order that you may grow up by it."

Spiritual craving is a good sign of spiritual vitality. Thriving Infants will not tolerate an empty stomach. They will scream until their craving is fully satisfied. Interestingly, God has designed the mother's body to respond to this cry by letting their milk down.

Are we craving spiritual life? Is God not moved to fill with His Spirit those who are craving His pure wisdom and understanding? Did not Jesus promise that "everyone who is asking is receiving?"

One of the early warning signs that children are becoming sick is a loss of appetite. We all love chubby little babies because their little fat rolls tell us that mom is taking good care of them. Pudgy cheeks and thunder thighs assure us this little one has a healthy appetite and is being well cared for.

It is not as easy to detect spiritual vitality; however, a strong craving for pure spiritual milk is a good sign. Everyone who hungers and thirsts after righteousness will be filled. If we are not being filled, we are not likely thriving.

Have we lost our hunger? Do we still crave the pure spiritual milk of the word? Those who are craving are thriving and God the Father must take great pleasure in feeding them.
Bon appetite!
