Day of Release

It was February 3rd, 1992.
Cooks Childrens medical Center, in Ft. worth, Texas.

After three weeks in ICU, watching a battle between life and death....this day of release would come, and we would never be the same.

The following song was written, two weeks into our stay in the hospital.  It speaks of the battle we all go through, and the hope we found in understanding why battles come.

Only a God Like You
Would work such a miracle in me
My heart is  devastated, broken by what I see
But you see through my fear and my weakness
that I'm fighting to believe
Only a God as Great as You.

Chorus:
That's why I love you so my Lord,
That's why your worthy to be adored
There is no God as Great as You ~repeat

Only a God like you,
Would purposely work to break my will
And  put me though pain and anguish
In order to make me still,
Then You pick up the pieces You've broken
for a vessel You can fill...
Only a God as Great as You

Only a God like you,
says I must lose, if I would find
so you strip away all of my pretence
and show where I've been blind,
and then when I'm weary and broken
Your word speaks hope to my mind
Only a God as Great as You

This was Anna's song, but continues to be ours.
Pictured below, we had just stepped outside the hospital, and were about to go home.

No words can express how much the world owes to sorrow. Most of the Psalms were born in the wilderness. Most of the Epistles were written in a prison. The greatest thoughts of the greatest thinkers have all passed through fire. The greatest poets have “learned in suffering what they taught in song.” In bonds Bunyan lived the allegory that he afterwards wrote, and we may thank Bedford Jail for the Pilgrim’s Progress. Take comfort, afflicted Christian! When God is about to make pre-eminent use of a person, He put them in the fire. ~George MacDonald

Your afflictions may only prove that you are more immediately under the Father's hand. There is no time that the patient is such an object of tender interest to the surgeon, as when he is bleeding beneath his knife. So you may be sure if you are suffering from the hand of a reconciled God, that His eye is all the more bent on you.

~Robert Murray McCheyne
