Pre SUM ption
“Through presumption comes nothing but strife, but with those who receive counsel is wisdom.” Prov. 13:10
In a practical sense the sin of presumption is when a person acts on
their own thinking, and these actions effect you.
What should my response be to the pride of men?
I must trust in the One who uses even the stumblings of men for my good.
Recently the pre-sum in presumption stood out to me.
Make a mental summation of all my Father has given, and will give, if I continue to count it all joy, give thanks and remember that ALL things work together for the good of those who are called for His purpose.
What looks like the insensitivity of men will become the opportunity for me to look to Him. There are times when the presumptions of men make us feel tied up or docked to the shore. But even these seasons are given for reasons we will understand in time. These happenings are His guiding hand to lead me in directions that I would never have dreamed of. My Father has the final say, but until then His summation is all I want.
"Why are you downcast o soul? The needs of men will always be more than we have the resources to meet. Men will always have expectations and those will press upon us. This should serve to make us lean hard upon our Lord to do only what He points out. Jesus said - "The Son can do nothing of Himself but only what He might see what the Father might do." There were many lame people at the pool of Bethesda but the Father pointed out one. There were many widows in Israel but the Lord sent Elijah to only one in Zarepheth. We become "down" when we look "down" at the circum (around) stances surrounding us. I lift my eyes - and fix them upon Him who is unseen - for more are they who are for us than those who are against us." ~Am
“Every contradiction of our will, every little ailment, every petty disappointment, will, if we take it patiently, become a blessing. So, walking on earth, we may be in heaven. The ill-tempers of others, the slights and rudeness of the world, ill-health, the daily accidents with which God has mercifully strewed our paths, instead of ruffling or disturbing our peace, may cause His peace to be shed abroad in our hearts abundantly.” ~E.B. Pusey
