A High Calling

Dear Sister,
I was thinking about something, that I wanted to encourage you in.
God is so in control, that He even knows when one sparrow falls.

Sometimes we think He needs our help, and that without it the
world will fall apart. I know, we are His hands and His feet...but
we must stay in step with His Spirit. The devil would rather us
run head long into all these good activities, than to have us be
still in the hidden places as mom's. Anything is more exciting than cleaning house, making meals and dealing with children
who are not listening to you. :-)

Sometimes the
HIGHEST callings are in the
HIDDEN places.
Sometimes
LIBERTY comes in
LIMITATIONS.

The world cries:
BE SOMETHING...
The Lord cries:
BE FAITHFUL
in the Little.

The High Calling of momma and wife is DESPISED by the world.

I believe this is why Peter and Timothy told the older women to teach the younger ones,to be sober and love their husbands and children. That was it! He would take care of the rest. It's really very simple, like a weaned child (Ps. 131), we learn to trust him in these hidden places.

One more thing, as you learn to take delight in your calling, and to do service from this overflow...your children will see the difference in "Serve Us" or "Service"  One is centered in 'what I can get', the other, in 'how I can give.'

Love you sister,
Dina
Written to a sister struggling with her calling.

I "stumbled" across an older newsletter today, we use to send out to family and friends, back in 2003.  This is an excerpt from something Daniel wrote.  It seemed to fit here.

When God looked down from heaven and saw Angela, Whitney and I, He called the angel Michael over and said, “Anna.”

I can see Michael grinning and raising his golden sword to the sky, shouting a victory cry across the sky and the enemy heard it and realized that God had given some family Anna.

Anna has been a gift from God, transforming an average family into one that became an unified body of soldiers. Anna came into the world quietly, but made a big ripple. Since Anna was unable to walk for the first six years of her life, I became her feet. As I lugged her around on my back, she brought a new perspective to my world that I could not ignore. No matter where she was, whether on my back or going freestyle, she was ready to take life by the bear hug!

I can remember seeing total strangers transfixed like a deer in the headlights, as Anna barreled towards them, arms opened wide. Anna's example of joyful love did as much for me as her dependency on us as a family.

Anna taught me the high calling of giving, that comes in the mundane daily task of life. Sometimes learning to give without feeling teaches a perseverance needed in a world that tends to only live by feelings. Anna's needs required all of our help,  and the giving of it changed us. These hidden ways that we give ourselves daily are the steel rods that hold in place the cement foundations of our lives. Anna is teaching me that true character is formed in the hidden places of service.
