Moving Mountains

Removing mountains or rooting up mountains were phrases very commonly used in Jesus' day,  referring to the removing or conquering of great difficulties. Many rabbis were termed, “rooters up of mountains”, because they were known for helping others with their difficulties.

This is the context through which our Lord's words are to be understood. He that has faith will get through every difficulty and perplexity. Faith moves earthly obstacles, like an excavator moves dirt, clearing the way for new construction. Doubt is like dirt, doing nothing while mounting up higher.

May our Father grant us faith to be mountain movers, allowing His Spirit to always be about new construction in our lives.

“Little things come daily, hourly, within our reach, and they are not less calculated to set forward our growth in holiness, than are the greater occasions which occur but rarely. Moreover, fidelity in trifles, and an earnest seeking to please God in little matters, is a test of real devotion and love. Let your aim be to please our dear Lord perfectly in little things, and to attain a spirit of childlike simplicity and dependence. In Proportion as self-love and self-confidence are weakened, and our will bowed to that of God, so will hindrances disappear, the internal troubles and contests which harassed the soul vanish, and it will be filled with peace and tranquility.” ~Jean Nicolas Grou

Now, as always, God discloses Himself to "babes" and hides Himself in thick darkness from the wise and the prudent. We must simplify our approach to Him. We must strip down to essentials (and they will be found to be blessedly few). We must put away all effort to impress, and come with the guileless candor of childhood. If we do this, without doubt God will quickly respond.~ A.W. Tozer

For in the time of trouble,
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of
His tabernacle He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.”
Ps. 27:5
