Kisses or Courage?

When my children were small, and learning to walk, sometimes they would stumble and hurt themselves. They would come to me, so I could kiss their hurt. My kiss, did not cure them, but gave assurance that they would be okay. As a younger mother, at first, I thought comfort was my calling.

They were also picky about what they wanted to eat, and how they wanted to be served.  Some of our first "battle grounds" were "fought" here in high chairs.

As they became older, and more sure of their steps, stumbling would still bring hurt. They did not come to me any more for a kiss.

They understood, that this pain came from their own actions. Sometimes it came, because LIFE was not concerned about their circumstances.

They found out that they could not pick and choose what life would serve them. They even saw that HARD and DIFFICULT were not conditions to fear, but places to flourish.

My calling for them changed, from comfort,

to Take Courage.

We both would find that Comfort was not what was needed in the end, but to Conform to His image.  Those who always look for comfort, do not understand the Cross.

We know maturity comes to our children, when they stop looking around for some one to give them assurance. They do not look at pain, or discipline as bad any more.

A good sign of Maturity, is when stumbling leads us to stand firmer in the Love of God, and seeing that “kisses” are not the cure, only Christ.

Heaven is not here, it’s There. If we were given all we wanted here, our hearts would settle for this world rather than the next. God is forever luring us up and away from this one, wooing us to Himself and His still invisible Kingdom, where we will certainly find what we so keenly long for.- Elisabeth Elliot

The knowledge of Christ's love for us should cause us to love Him in such a way that it is demonstrated in our attitude, conduct, and commitment to serve God. Spiritual maturity is marked by spiritual knowledge being put into action. --Edward Bedore

Let the world despise and leave me

They have left my Savior too

Human hearts and looks deceive me

Thou art not, like them untrue

O while Thou dost smile upon me

God of wisdom, love and might

Foes may hate and friends disown me

Show Thy face and all is bright
