It is not unusual to see turtles crossing our busy J High Way. We have learned to dodge them, and for the most part spare them from harm. But recently I saw one upside down, and this told me that it came very close to being smashed by a car that was not so careful.
Its story told me that there comes a time when the places we cross will leave us no different then this slow careful turtle.
Slow and careful is not always a recipe for guidance. Silence and Stillness may be the call to our hearts when our senses are overloaded. It is the places we choose to travel on that will make us more accessible to the harm of halting. This turtle is going no where until a hand comes to flip it.
The road called independence (or leaning on your own understanding) is very apt to do the same in our lives.
We also find ourselves taking these wrong roads, when anxiousness has convinced us it is better to move than to be still and let our Father direct us. These do not always flip us upside down right away, but in time we will find ourselves in positions, not too different than the turtle we saw on the road. . . waiting for the Hand of deliverance to come.
“The whole benefit of trial consists in silence, patience, rest, and resignation. In this condition divine strength is found for the hard warfare, because God Himself fights for the soul. ~M. Molinos
"In the rush and noise of life, as you have intervals, step home within yourselves and be still. Wait upon God, and feel His good presence; this will carry you evenly through your day's business." ~William Penn
"God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill His promises...leading us along the best and straightest paths to Himself." ~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
