A Heart Set to Stand

THE STABILITY OF RESOLVE is a blessing worth all diligence.

How can we experience this
unwavering constistency?

The answer was given by David, the man after God's own heart - "I HAVE SET THE LORD continually before me, the Lord is at my right hand - therefore I SHALL NOT BE MOVED!"

Surely David could not tell the God of the universe where to be, but he could and did tell his own heart where to look at all times.

This is the key to our stability -

a constant focus and awareness of God!

Isaiah wrote "Thou will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he is fixed upon Thee."

Hearts and minds that are not fixed by our setting them upon God are like waves of the sea blown and tossed by the changing direction of the variable winds.

James describes the man in this wavering state of doubting as "a double minded man, unstable in all his ways." We can all "wish" for stability and never see our longing fulfilled. Or we can follow the examples set by men whose lives bore witness that they pleased God.

The greatest example of all is our Lord Jesus who for the joy set before Him endured the cross. Knowing that He was facing such cruelty at the hands of His bitter enemies, "He set His face like a flint" to go where He knew His Father was leading.

He set His Father's face before Him and was empowered to pray "not my will but Thine be done."

Stability is not an accident that comes by chance, it is an attitude that comes by choice.

Fix a heart and fix our problem.
