A Quiet Heart

Over Heated is the best way I can describe, being overwhelmed at times. When a car or an appliance gets overheated, usually the gears are stuck, or need oil.

It is not always the circumstances that cause this malfunctioning, as much as problems from within. Friction on gears without oil equals heat. The simplest things can solve these issues. A little oil, or water for an engine.

Some times it is, becoming quiet, and asking the Father for wisdom,

And if, in the process, any of you does not know how to meet any particular problem he has only to ask God - who gives generously to all men without making them feel foolish or guilty - and he may be quite sure that the necessary wisdom will be given him.” James 1:5 J.B. Phillips

What might seem HUGE, turns into HELP from above....which is, “Pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be untreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and with hypocrisy.” James 3:17

Sometimes overheating has more to do with running, when God said to rest. Fretting instead of finding His peace that passes our understanding. And doing things he never asked us to do. It also shows us, our need for more of His strength, in our weakness.

The following is an older note, that Alan wrote to our boys, about Quietness.  Learning to quiet our hearts to hear His voice, will be like oil, to our "overheated" gears.  This will allow a smoother ride, on the inside, as we travel the rougher roads that come with this life.

Quietness is a treasure not everyone has learned to value. It is very hard for some people and very special to others. What about you?Do you like quietness? Another word for quietness is stillness - do you like stillness?

Isaiah wrote "The fruit of righteousness is peace - the effect of righteousness quietness and confidence."

Solomon wrote "a heart at peace is life to the body." Scientists today confirm that the number one cause of health problems is STRESS. People are too busy, with too many concerns on their minds. Many people have a hard time getting good, peaceful rest. Isaiah saw this and wrote "the wicked are like the waves of the sea, foaming and tossed about; there is no rest for the wicked."

A person who has learned the secret treasure of a quiet heart is truly a remarkable person to know and watch. During the storm on the sea of Galilee, the circumstances were intense, the situation critical, in fact it was so bad that all the disciples were as stirred up on the inside as the sea was on the outside.

One person was quiet, so at peace and rest that He was sleeping. In their panic the disciples woke Jesus up with their own sense of alarm - "Don't you care Lord, we are about to drown." Jesus did not let their internal storm, or the external storm outside the boat disturb His own inner quiet and calm. From His powerful calm, quiet faith - He spoke! His internal quiet and stillness - subdued the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee and the one inside the souls of the disciples.

What kind of quiet and stillness do you want - the disciple kind or the teacher kind? I pray you will learn to value the treasure of the Lord's quietness and stillness.

"When a man has quietly made up his mind that there is nothing he cannot endure, his fears leave him."  ~Grove Patterson

"If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a glass slipper on a gouty foot."  John Bunyan

Before the winds that blow do cease,
Teach me to dwell within Thy calm:
Before the pain has passed in peace,
Give me, my God, to sing a psalm.
Let me not lose the chance to prove
The fullness of enabling love.
Oh, love of God, do this for me:
Maintain a constant victory.¹
